Mother’s Day. A day to say thank you to the mother’s in our lives: Mums, grans, stepmothers, foster mothers, mothers-in-law and the women who become mums for those left without one.

For Christians, Mothering Sunday is a day honouring ‘mother churches’ - the church where one is baptised and becomes "a child of the church". I won’t be able to attend my mother church - St Peter’s Church, London Docks - as I’ve been up North with work this weekend - but wishing all of you, wherever you are, however you’re marking the day, a Happy Mothering Sunday.

Our MP Laura Kyrke-Smith for Aylesbury stood up in parliament today to ask a key question on SEND services in Bucks

She says

"Today I asked the Leader of the House Lucy Powell MP if she would reaffirm our Government's commitment to reforming the SEND system, and I was pleased with her response."

"There's lots more to do at both the local and national levels to deliver the SEND services that families in Aylesbury and the villages need and deserve.

I welcome the steps our Government is taking to invest in our SEND system, including today's announcement that 10,000 new school places will be funded for children with SEND."

£740 million is being invested by the government to deliver adaptations, expand specialist units in mainstream as well as create new places in special schools – enabling more children to succeed at a school close to their homes and families.

This comes alongside a significant £1 billion investment to fund 44,500 places in mainstream schools needed by 2028, helping meet current and future demand across the country.

The answer to fixing our broken SEND system lies not just in funding, but reform as well.

We owe it to all the SEND children and their incredible parents, carers and teachers to work together and do everything in our power to fix this system as quickly as possible.

Thank you for raising this Laura Kyrke-Smith. As if we haven't enough to deal with in our lives as parents of children with SEND, it is a travesty that we have to endure such appalling treatment at the hands of this Local Authority, and the systematic and elaborate ways in which they try to circumvent their statutory duties towards our children, some of which we discussed when you kindly visited our house. The most cruel aspect of this is that most if not all of those people in the Local Authority do not have any special educational needs or disabilities themselves and benefitted from a free state education, and yet now it seems that this same free education afforded to them is being put to use to actively try to find ways to deprive children much less able than themselves the privilege that they once enjoyed. I do not know how these people sleep at night.

This weekend we were out talking to residents in Southcourt, supporting our fantastic Aylesbury South West Labour candidates Ansar Gulzar and Tanya Warshaw ahead of the Bucks Council elections on May 1st.

"There's loads of work I would love to be able to do with Labour councillors if they are elected in May, so please do consider lending us your support. It's time for change on Bucks Council!"

This week, our MP Laura Kyrke-Smith for Aylesbury stood up in Parliament to talk about potholes plaguing Aylesbury motorists - they cause expensive damage to our cars, and make pedestrians and cyclists less safe.

She has fought for the Labour government to commit £20m in funding to Buckinghamshire Council to fix our roads.

She adds:
"We are working hard to get our Aylesbury Labour Party candidates elected onto the Council on the 1st of May to ensure this investment delivers results for my constituents."

What a great job Laura is doing, standing up for Aylesbury and the surrounding villagers 👏

HELLO, AYLESBURY NORTH!

We are Rob Marshall and Tina Cardy - your Labour candidates for the Bucks Council elections on May 1st!

From the Queens Park Centre, to the Town Centre and Elmhurst, we're standing to hold the council to account for their wasteful spending, so we can fix the roads, beat the congestion, and ensure we all have the clean air and reliable public transport that you expect!

We want a fair and healthy Aylesbury for all! If you elect us, we will work with our MP to ensure you get what your council taxes pay for - including ensuring local education authorities and health services are there for all our families.

We are both long time Aylesbury residents, we have raised our families here and have long been involved with local independent businesses and schools.

Just the sort of decent people we need as councillors. Serving the people of Aylesbury North, not themselves! 🌹
